Super Eagles of Nigeria prolific and versatile defender, Chidozie Awaziem was solid yesterday for Croatia Professional Football League giant Hajduk Split in the final of the League Cup against Sibenik at the Stadion HNK Rijeka.
The 26 year old Nigerian international and former FC Porto star retained his spot in his team’s starting XI line-up having been a key figure in the squad since his summer arrival, and he was able to deliver yet at the peak in the whole 90 minutes duration.
Chidozie Awaziem was outstanding for his team at the heart of the defence line where he made several decisive and dangerous clearances to deny their opponent some clear cut chances that could have been converted into goals, thereby played instrumental role in the convincing win complemented with a clean sheet.
The first half of the game hanged on the balance with nothing separating the two sides going into the half time break which ended goalless draw, before Dario Melnjak gave his team the lead to make it one nil in the 64th minute.
In the 94th minute of the game, Marko Livaja was able to get the lead doubled for his team via penalty as he put the ball away from the spot to make it two goals to nil at full time, thereby won their 8th Croatian Cup Title.
Chidozie Awaziem with his level of performance in the game will be hoping to keep the tempo and momentum going for his team in their next game as they continue their pursuit in the competition.
