Gap recently brought a lawsuit in LA against 45-year-old West and his Yeezy clothing line. The clothing giant was sued by Art City Center last year for “damages” to the property at 1360 E. 6th St., which the firm contends it owns and is leased to Gap.
According to the lawsuit, the modifications included construction an outdoor ramp in the east side parking lot, placing a tunnel there, removing the ceiling lights, constructing a wall, and eliminating three bathrooms.
West, who announced the Yeezy Gap cooperation in 2020, is being blamed by Gap.
According to the lawsuit against West, “by making and not repairing or restoring the foregoing alterations of the premises that [West] made without Gap’s participation or approval, [West] breached the strategic agreement and directly and proximately caused Gap to incur expenses to repair and restore the premises.”
Gap is asking West be held responsible for any damages owed to Art City, as well as $2 million in compensatory damages for itself.
When contacted for a comment, a Gap spokesperson declined to comment, citing pending litigation.
Gap ended its partnership with the “Stronger” rapper last fall after he made a string of anti-Semitic comments.
“Antisemitism, racism and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values,” Gap said in a statement at the time.
But West later claimed the venture failed because he is a “king.” “Everyone knows that I’m the leader, I’m the king,” West said during a CNBC appearance. “A king can’t live in someone else’s castle. A king has to make his own castle.”
West’s controversial remarks also cost him a lucrative Yeezy deal with Adidas, according to Forbes.
That meant West lost his billionaire status, as a whopping $1.5 billion of his estimated $2 billion fortune was attributed to his relationship with the apparel company.
