Ivory Coast’s proposed bill seeking to legalize polygamy has earned the ire of women’s rights activists in the country.
Women’s rights groups expressed displeasure with the bill.
According to them, the bill represents a step backwards in the fight for equality.
It would be recalled that Cote d’Ivoire outlawed polygamy in 1964.
And the rights groups are saying that women in Cote d’Ivoire are facing systemic inequalities and discrimination.
The bill is expected to be reviewed by the Constitutional Court before it it can be put to a vote in parliament.
