Risha Sunak has been elected the new leader of UK’s Conservative Party, becoming the country’s next Prime Minister.
Sunak will be the first person of Asian-descent to serve as UK Prime Minister.
At age 42, he is also the youngest person to serve as the Prime Minister of Britain since Lord Liverpool took office in 1812.
He is taking over from Liz Truss who stepped down few days ago after having spent just 45 days in office.
Sunak was an ex-chancellor and was responsible for overseeing UK’s finances during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His main contender for the Tory leadership contest was Penny Mordaunt who left the race in the final minutes before the closure of nominations.
Sunak becomes the third Prime Minister of Britain in three months. Truss took over from Boris Johnson and she is now to hand over to Sunak.
