Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi
Police in Zimbabwe have accused politicians of creating tension in the country.
According to the police, politicians in Zimbabwe from the across the political divide are feeling violence in the country.
The police said politicians were making it difficult for them to discharge their duties.
The national spokesperson of the Zimbabwean police, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi revealed these at a meeting on peace and elections.
The meeting was organized by Zimbabwe Council of Churches in collaboration with the National Transitional Justice Working Group (NTJWG) in Harare.
According to Mr. Nyathi, “Some politicians lie, for example, a politician wanted to hold a rally in a building in Bulawayo. His gathering was cleared by the police, but the property owner did not want it. The politician later addressed the gathering and claimed he had been denied by the police.”
He stated that police would now seek confirmation from property owners before clearing gatherings.
He was responding to concerns by participants over partisan policing in favour of the ruling Zanu PF party.
