Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee has disclosed plans about his ongoing consultation with his lawyers both in Liberia and abroad to initiate a lawsuit against Cllr. Jerome Verdier for accusing of him being the masterminded behind the attempted assassination of former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott that resulted to the death of her daughter.
Mayor Koijee who is also the Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change, (CDC) at the same time also revealed that he has no history of shedding the blood of a chicken, least to talk about a human being thus describing the allegation as “false and misleading” only intended to tarnish his high-earn reputation.
Recently, Cllr. Verdie on February 23, 2023 serving as a guest on the Spoon Talk, made s sterling revelation that the City Mayor hired Varlee Tarlee, one of his security guards within the Monrovia City Police Department to kill the former Chief Justice, Cllr. Scott but did not provide the motive behind Koijee’s alleged plot against the former Chief Justice.
But Koijee in a response to Cllr. Verdier allegation against his person, further indicated that those who are making such a statement are doing it for political reasons, something he is not good for the political climate, especially as the country is gearing up for its Presidential and Legislative elections.
“Those making unfounded claims are people who think the only shortcut to the Presidency of our country is to malign people like us with falsehood. So, people like Verdier have spent over the years finding lies to malign me but every time he does, the truth can defeat him.
“We have consulted our lawyers both at home and abroad to get him to court so he can prove some of those lies and innuendo because this is not the first time Cllr. Verdier has come out with damaging revelations against my person,” he said.
According to him, such action from from Cllr. Verdier is not just an attack on his person but the governance system of the country at large, noting, “The Justice Minister needs to take this very seriously because it’s becoming a systemic attack on our governance system.”
Koijee further stressed that the action from Cllr. Verdier is also a means to threaten the country peace and stability and as such, there is a need for the U.S government to get involve on grounds that a Liberian citizen is undermining Liberia’s peace on U.S soil.
“We know very well that once you threaten the peace and stability of the U.S, wherever you are the U.S get concerned and I hope they can do the same for Liberia when people like Vedier are using the U.S soil to undermine the peace of a country the U.S has invested a lot.
“We hope the Foreign Affairs Minister can reach out as well because this borders on the reputation of our country. Especially, when Verdier is also accusing the President of the country, a man who has a track record of being the most peaceful character to ever in our country,” he added.
