Word reaching Entertainment SA is that amapiano star Mfana KaGogo has survived a scary car accident over the past weekend.
Born Sipho Mbonambi, the artist is said to have spent Saturday doing rehearsals, preparing for his most significant performance yet, but he and his team never made it to the venue.
According to a local media website, Mfana Ka Gogo, his driver Mavuso Shabalala, DJ Melukuhle Nzimande, and two producers Vukani and Mnotho Chamane were all involved in a car accident.
They were on their way to Artizen KwaMashu, where he was releasing Inzalo Ka Sikabopha, his much anticipated 16-track amapiano album.
Drum reports that the gig was supposed to be Mfana Ka Gogo’s big moment because, ever since he entered the industry, he has only released singles.
“Even though he enjoys making music, he wanted to devote all his energy to school. This was his first body of work, and he was eager to perform, this launch was [meant to be] a defining moment for him,” said his manager, Mafutha Sokhela.
According to Mafutha, the artist is still reeling from what happened on Saturday and is taking some time off to process it.
“He was going to do a live session and wanted to give his fans an experience since they were going to hear his project for the first time. He spent the entire day on Saturday practicing,” he added.
“We are still dealing with this traumatic event. Although I was not present at the time of the accident, they informed me that they were driving to the location when a car suddenly appeared on the road as they approached the traffic circle.
“Their vehicle rolled multiple times to the other side of the road as they attempted to move for the other vehicle.”
Sokhela told the news outlet that the young lad is currently in shock because everything happened so fast.
